To play poker, one has to be smart, but to win consistently, one has to acquire or develop three key skills. The first skill that a winning poker player must have is a good grasp of mathematics. He must know the likelihood of winning in every game, the different probabilities when playing a hand and the importance of the system of outs in each game. For example to win in limit texas holdem playing solid hands is essential. A good poker player will know that it is better to rake in a small pot than to lose a big one.
